An excellent book by a true master
craftsman and long time woodworking teacher. Actually two
books in one with book one covering joinery and book two
covering shaping, veneering and finishing. If you can have
only one woodworking book, this is probably the one you
should get.

This is the book I started woodturning
with. Keith Rowley presents a complete course in the basic,
safe, and correct techniques for mastering the lathe. Each
chapter takes on an essential aspect of woodturning—from
types of lathes and accessories to sharpening—from turning
between centers to faceplate turning.

Compiled by Richard Raffan, Taunton's
Complete Illustrated Guide to Turning features step-by-step
descriptions for an abundance of wood turning techniques,
including both spindle and faceplate methods. Over 900 color
photos accompany detailed, hands-on instructions for turning
wood, including how to use lathes, turning tools and
materials, chucks, as well as sharpening tools.

One of the joys of woodworking and setting
up shop are the myriad of jigs you can create to make doing
a particular job easier and more accurate. This book will
get you started and get the juices flowing. Soon you'll be
creating your own helpers and having a ball doing it.

This is the most complete book on
finishing I've seen. Many woodworkers don't like finishing
but it is essential you know how to do it right. I'm always
amazed but when I show a finished item to someone, the first
thing they do is run their hands over it and comment on the
finish. I think you can take a so-so piece of woodworking,
put a great finish on and have it perceived as a
masterpiece.
